Outing the local media: your lack of morals is showing

Some media people seem to forget that Twitter is publicly accessible. They should know better, don't you think? Their lack of morals is showing as well as their ignorance of social media. Nobody really cares what a local rag claiming to be political satire says, but people expect more of the CBC and the Chronicle-Herald.

Here are tweets seen today. Some are by friends of media people. Don't get me wrong:  people are entitled to their opinions. But I can't help noticing, there is no monopoly on heartlessness.

   This is totally wrong: the city ASKED the judge to give me a $1 fine, and I said I'd like that, but the judge did not decide yet, as the Herald should know since it reported the April 30 date!

   Mr. Conrad is lying outright. The facts do not support him. Not only do HRM's own records bear out the truth that I was given LESS chances than other owners; the prosecutor was questioned directly by the judge on this question, and he could not refute it. As his tweet is clearly meant to defame me, I hope Mr. Conrad realizes that he is guilty of libel at this point, and that his employer is unlikely to pay for his defence.

   Not that there is any point in such undertakings, but there are limits, and people in the media are not immune from court action. In some ways, the Herald seems to be itching for it. They were already outed when their reporter Pat Lee, who wrote a story all about rehoming Brindi, was revealed to belong to the SPCA and writes their newsletter. 
   The Herald may not be worried by a libel case in Canada, but they should realize that one can sue a Canadian business from a court in the US, and as everybody knows, US courts are much more generous with awards for pain and suffering. Damages for pain and suffering are not possible in Canada.
   I should also add that the local CBC has decided to ask a question of its listeners whose wording is clearly biased. They've all but ignored the story until recently - and this is the question they choose to ask? It's hardly a newsworthy question at this point. One would think the CBC would ask more central questions, like, "Do you think it's right for the city to seize and kill an animal without having to show just cause?" or, "What should be the definition of a dangerous dog?"
   Warning to them as well. I have nothing more to lose, unlike them, and a good contingency lawyer is just a phone call away.

   Thankfully, not ALL local media people are this bad. When I said something to a few of them yesterday during a break about how incredible this whole thing is, what HRM is doing, she said, "It's what they always do." 
   The ironic and sad thing is- this is objectively a GREAT story for journalists, with far-reaching consequences. People love their dogs, and this issue affects half of the local population that own dogs. Brindi's story has exposed a lot of things that people do not know about but should - like the extravagant amount of money the city spends on the pound, for instance. At a time when the city is facing a huge debt and considering low-revenue measures like fees to use the dump (good way to increase illegal dumping!), that contract deserves serious scrutiny, it seems to me. Then there's the infringement of Charter rights that is still built into by-law A300, since the city still has no provision for appeals or due process in instances of seizures - and there are two other dogs on death row, so their owners' Charter rights are ALSO being violated. 
   I admit, I feel very moody these days. Extremely. I welcome anybody accusing me of being overly sensitive or worse to come to my house, sit down at my table, and talk to me. More: I dare them to spend one hour in court, just sit and watch, any case whatsoever. Multiply that stultifying mind-melt into dozens and dozens, plus hundreds of hours of preparation and research, and layer it with emotional stress, harassment, and physical hardship, loss of reputation tossed in, and you might begin to see why I'm not very amused to be the brunt of sarcastic remarks by anybody.
